Where sources disagree
Dominican tourism authorities currently authorize US tourist passports that remain valid for the stay through 31 Dec 2026. The U.S. Department of State still lists a 6-month passport-validity rule. Airlines may apply either standard.
Visa Requirements for US Citizens
Do US citizens need a visa for the Dominican Republic?
US passport holders generally do not need a consular tourist visa for ordinary short tourist visits. A mandatory E-Ticket still applies on commercial flights.
Visa required
NO
Visa-free stay
Tourist admission is described as 30 days.
Maximum permitted stay
Stays beyond 30 days use Migration’s overstay/extension process and extra departure fees.
Extension possible
Possible through Dominican Migration after the initial tourist period. Confirm current fees.
Electronic authorization
No consular visa. The E-Ticket is a mandatory passenger form, not a visa.
Purpose restrictions
Ordinary short tourism. Work or study is a different process.
Official authority
Dominican Republic Ministry of Tourism / Dirección General de Migración

The official Dominican tourism site lists the United States among nationalities that do not need a visa to enter as tourists.
That covers ordinary short tourism. Work, study, or a stay past the tourist period is a different process through Dominican authorities.
If you stay beyond 30 days, Dominican tourism describes additional departure fees on a sliding scale, payable online or at the airport immigration area after check-in.
Passport and Documents

Passport validity
General Dominican tourist-entry wording asks for a passport with at least six months’ validity, plus a return ticket, a local address, and proof of funds.
An exceptional measure for US (and certain other) tourist passports, in force from 1 December 2024 through 31 December 2026, authorizes entry with a passport that remains valid during the stay and departure.
The U.S. Department of State still lists a six-month passport rule. Airlines may follow either standard at check-in. An expired passport is still not valid for travel.
Onward and return travel
Since 28 April 2023, air operators to and from the Dominican Republic must ensure foreign passengers have a ticket into and out of the country (round-trip). Dominican nationals and residents are exempt from that airline check.
Failure can mean denied boarding or denied entry. Carry the return or onward booking to the counter.

When to complete
Before the airline counter. You may fill it once you have flight details; it must be done before check-in.
The E-Ticket is mandatory for Dominican and foreign passengers entering or leaving on commercial flights. US citizenship does not remove it.
The official portal is eticket.migracion.gob.do. It is free. Third-party sites that charge to “process” an E-Ticket are not the government form.
Dominican tourism currently says you do not have to wait until 72 hours before travel. You may complete it once you have flight details, even months ahead, but it must be done before the airline counter.
You need arrival and departure QR confirmations. Save the application code if you must edit the form.
Passengers on private flights, non-commercial vessels, ferries, or cruise ships are described as using physical customs and embarkation forms instead of the E-Ticket.
Use the full Dominican Republic E-Ticket guide for field-by-field help.
Do US citizens need a Dominican Republic Tourist Card?
US travelers arriving by air should generally expect the US$10 Tourist Card charge to be included in their qualifying airline ticket issued outside the Dominican Republic. The separate E-Ticket is free and must be completed for the applicable commercial-flight entry/exit process.
Do not buy a separate US$10 Tourist Card before flying unless your ticket is not a qualifying airfare issued outside the country. Land and sea arrivals follow DGII points of sale, not the airfare rule.
The Tourist Card is a DGII tourism tax/card. It is not a visa and it is not the E-Ticket. Use the full Dominican Republic Tourist Card guide for airfare inclusion, refunds, and land/sea rules.
Customs
The official E-Ticket portal states that the unique customs declaration is required for adults 18 and older.
Children included on a family E-Ticket do not fill the customs section. One QR can cover the family group described on the form.
Personal-use allowances (tobacco, alcohol, gifts) are published on the official tourism entry page. Follow that official list.

Expired or lost passport
If a passport is expired or lost, contact a US embassy or consulate. Confirm current CBP document practice before you fly.

The Dominican E-Ticket is a destination exit step, not a US return form.
What to declare
Declare purchases, gifts, and food. If unsure, declare it.
Food and agriculture
Food and farm-product rules can differ. Declare items; inspectors decide.
Purchases and duty
Typical CBP exemption: US$800, generally once every 30 days. Confirm live amounts.

Amounts over $10,000 (or equivalent) in cash or monetary instruments are typically reported to CBP. Reporting is not the same as a ban. Confirm current CBP practice.
Medications
Medicine you bring back can be treated differently than in the destination. Keep original packaging and confirm with CBP/FDA if unsure.
After you return
Some areas have extra CDC health notes after return. That is health guidance, not a US entry form.
Traveling with a dog or other pet
Pet return rules can depend on the animal and countries visited, not only the last airport. Check current CDC guidance.
CDC currently lists Dominican Republic as high-risk for dog rabies for US dog import. Confirm the live CDC list; rules can depend on other countries visited in the past 6 months.
